Vaping convention coming to Ontario Convention Center Friday
ONTARIO >> As the relatively new business of electronic cigarettes, or vaping, has become a $2 billion a year industry, companies and consumers are gathering here this weekend to meet and learn about products.
The second annual Electronic Cigarette Convention starts Friday at the Ontario Convention Center, 2000 East Convention Center Way.
The event was held last year at the Anaheim Convention Center, but issues related to visitors being able to vape or use electronic cigarettes at the convention center led to the move to Ontario this year, according to organizers.
“We were able to completely rent out the Ontario Convention Center,” said Dulce Mac, event planner for ECC, LLC. “We’re not sharing the convention with anybody else. At the Anaheim Convention Center, because it’s a public area, we can’t really vape in a public area.”
ECC LLC, the company organizing the event, said it hopes to double its attendance from last year’s attendance of about 18,000 visitors. About 300 e cigarette vendors will be participating.
Among the companies is VapeRev, a distributor and retail e cigarette store based in Cerritos. The company will have a 10,000 square-foot space on the convention floor, filled with exclusive vendors, said Amber Lee, chief communications officer of the company.
“Being a part of the convention is very exciting,” Lee said. “It’s a great opportunity to have the public interact with each and every brand owner, so instead of trying a product, now you get to meet the creator of that product. That’s why this kind of public outlet is very useful and effective.”
The event runs Friday to Sunday, with business to business meetings from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. It will be open to the public from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, from noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
